A comprehensive treatment may be needed in some cases where dredging will be inevitable as navigation will be difficult without clearing silt, mud and other materials from the bed and not just from the surface. Dredging makes navigation easier and smoother. It also enhances the scale of transportation and improves safety parameters for water tourism.
